Husk: Natural Beauty In The Heart Of Toronto

Husk: Natural Beauty In The Heart Of Toronto

All-natural beauty lovers rejoice! Toronto now has their very own one-stop shop for truly luxurious and synthetic-free skincare and beauty products. Along with a variety of gluten-free and organic treats (because we all know shopping makes a girl hungry!) Read about my experience below at one of the hottest new store's in Toronto's Yorkville hood - Husk.

It’s no surprise that your outer beauty and inner health are inextricably linked. Think about the toll  your skin takes after a raging weekend in Vegas.  This holistic idea forms the basis of Stephanie Degasperis’ modern and beautiful Yorkville shop, Husk. At Husk you will be sure to find beauty products which refresh your body from the inside out. The shop is filled to the brim with external revitalizers like organic lip balms, synthetic-free sunscreen, detox teas and supplements, and zero-toxicity skincare lines like Odacité.

Stephanie herself is a certified nutritional practitioner, and upon graduation spent a year living in Los Angeles and New York researching wellness and products, she really has done her homework! Might I add that all of the employees at the store are either holistic nutritionists who graduated from The Institute of Holistic Nutrition, one of Toronto’s leading nutritional schools, or are certified aestheticians. It’s amazing how knowledgable all of the staff are! They all understand individual needs and the ingredients of the products, helping customers make the appropriate choice.

Stephanie took me around her store and showed me some of her favorite products. Each line has been hand selected from local outlets and abroad, and she has even travelled and met with the owners of the lines she carries in store. I first got a peek at the beautiful fridge, (pictured below), which carries some of the best superfoods I’ve seen outside LA. I’m talking raw chocolates, fresh olive oil from Greece, vegan brownies and power pudding.

One of the first lines I was introduced to was The Body Deli, a line of fresh, raw, organic skin and body care. The company was founded in 2001, and was created by cosmetic chefs in Palm Desert, California. Not only do the products smell amazing, they are made of raw superfoods which contain high concentrated sources of bio-identical nutrients, minerals, enzymes and antioxidants. The Body Deli scrubs were by far my favorite, they are mixed with fine exotic sea salts and plant butters to create a whipped body treat that exfoliates dry rough skin and conditions.

Stephanie was kind enough to give me some great testers to go home with and I am obsessed with the Hydrating Floral Essence Spray by Tata HarperThe line prides itself on being highly effective for their strong antiaging qualities, and every product is completely free of synthetic and chemical ingredients.

My skin never felt dry even with the cool autumn winds that were coming about, and the mist was so easy to apply. It also serves as a great primer for makeup.

I’m going to save some more goodies for the gallery below but if you are a natural beauty junkie, or simply want to go for a quick organic snack after the gym you should definitely check out Husk. I loved it!
